Athlete Photo Submission Guidelines:

To ensure that all athlete photos have a high-quality and consistent look on our website, please follow the guidelines below:

1. Choose the Right Location:

Find a well-lit room or area. Avoid taking photos during sunrise or sunset to prevent strange ambient colors.
Use a solid and plain background. Make sure it contrasts with the athlete’s attire (e.g., if wearing light clothes, use a dark background and vice versa).
The background should be free of shadows, pictures, or decorations.

2. Prepare the Camera:

Ensure the camera or smartphone lens is clean. Wipe it gently with a soft cloth to remove any smudges or dust.
Use the highest resolution setting available.
Disable any filters or effects. If your smartphone has a portrait mode, ensure the background remains solid and doesn’t blur.

3. Position the Athlete:

Stand about 2-3 feet (60-90 cm) away from the background to minimize shadows.
Center the athlete in the frame.

4. Frame the Shot:

Capture from the chest up.
The top of the athlete’s head and both shoulders should be visible.
Allow a small space (about an inch or 2.5 cm) above the head for cropping if needed.

5. Athlete’s Appearance:

Wear appropriate sports attire or uniform.
The face must be clearly visible. If the athlete has long hair, it should be tied back.
Maintain a neutral or slight smile. Avoid exaggerated expressions.

6. Taking the Photo:

Hold the camera steady. Using a tripod or resting the camera on a stable surface is recommended.
Ensure the image is sharply focused on the athlete’s face.

7. Submission:

Upload the photo in your settings under the Account Info > Profile Picture tab.
Please refrain from editing or applying filters; our team will handle that to ensure a consistent look.

Frequently Ask Questions

A. Each event will be judged and scored using the Competitive Wakesurfing Competition
Guidelines, Part 10 Scoring.

A. There are no “points for tricks” in competitive wakesurfing. The CWSA no longer uses the
term “trick” when describing the actions of the rider. You will now see the term “maneuvers
and combinations of maneuvers” versus “trick”. Each rider is scored subjectively on their
maneuvers and combinations of maneuvers executed during their competition run using the
DIVE scoring criteria, and compared to a benchmark rider in their division or heat.

A. Each rider is scored subjectively on their maneuvers and combinations of maneuvers
executed during their competition run using the DIVE scoring criteria (Difficulty, Intensity
Variety and Execution). Each category will be assigned a score of 1-10 from each of the 3 judges
and will be weighted equally resulting in a maximum score of 120 points given to each rider.
The unique maneuver may have not been enough, by itself, to overcome the scoring of the
other riders. The run is not judged only based on a single maneuver or combination of
maneuvers. For more information on the DIVE scoring criteria please go to the Competitive
Wakesurfing Competition Guidelines, Part 10 Scoring Criteria.

A. Each rider is scored subjectively on their maneuvers and combinations of maneuvers
executed during their competition run compared to a benchmark rider. The benchmark rider
will be the first rider in the heat or division. The benchmark’s score may be lower on day 2
versus day 1, this will have an impact on the follow-on riders in that heat or division. Further
explanations of the benchmark method will be found in the Competitive Wakesurfing
Competition Guidelines, Part 10.5, Application of the Subjective Components, Calculating and
Rank.

A. The results of any division heat, preliminary or final, may be protested by a competitor in
that heat, preliminary or final. There are specific grounds for protest by the competitor, and
specific procedures that must be followed by the competitor in order to enter a protest. For
more information on protests please refer to the Competitive Wakesurfing Competition
Guidelines, Part 11, Results, Objections and Protests.
