Dear Competitive Wake Surf Association Members,
The CWSA Board of Directors regretfully announces the resignation of Chris Bank as a Director and Vice President, effective June 25, 2019.
Chris served as a director from 2012 to 2019, was President in 2013 and 2014, and from 2016 to 2019 was Vice President.
Chris, who was one of original members of the CWSA, has contributed thousands of hours to the development of the sport of wakesurfing and the development of the CWSA organization.
While his departure from the CWSA will be a loss for the Board, Chris continues to be active in the sport.
In his resignation letter Chris wrote, “We have come a long way from a small group of individual event organizers meeting in Parker, AZ, banding together to begin the formal development and promotion of the sport of wakesurfing. We chose “Freedom”, and forged on as an independent group, rather than opting to lose our identity by being consumed by more well-established associations.”
Chris was involved with many ‘firsts’ for wakesurfing during his tenure on the CWSA Board of Directors, helping the CWSA to be the first organization to:
Bring a proper scoring system to wakesurfing (twice, actually, with blended objective and now 100% subjective DIVE).
Bring a worldwide rider ranking system to wakesurfing.
Formalize a worldwide series of wakesurf events, tied together with a common championship.
Provide a set of guidelines to conduct a wakesurf event, to be used consistently around the globe.
Provide a Judging and Scoring Tool, universally used by all of our sanctioned events.
Travel around the World to present and train on our proprietary systems, to ensure consistency in judging and event execution.
The CWSA Board of Directors thanks Chris for his years of contributions, expertise and professionalism to help grow this exciting new sport of wakesurfing.
We all wish him well.
