2018 was another great year for the sport of wake surfing. Our sport and the CWSA continues to see tremendous growth and we are excited about what lies ahead in 2019. With the growth of the sport, the ‘season’ is now year-round. Unbelievably it is only December and we are already four events into the 2019 season! Recently the CWSA Board elected Directors and Officers for the upcoming year. The Board is excited to welcome Svetlana Belova, Sean Cummings and Eric Grindland as new Directors. Eric will also be serving as the Board’s Secretary this year. Below is a complete list of current Directors and Officers. Chris Bank, Vice President & Director (United States) chris.bank@thecwsa.org Svetlana Belova, Director (Russian Federation) svetlana.belova@thecwsa.org Sean Cummings, Director (United States) sean.cummings@thecwsa.org Eric Grindland, Secretary & Director (United States) eric.grindland@thecwsa.org Chad Hudson, Treasurer & Director (Canada) chad.hudson@thecwsa.org Sang Han Jung, Director (South Korea) han@thecwsa.org Troy Mann, Director (United States) troy@thecwsa.org Jon Shields, President & Director (United States) jon.shields@thecwsa.org Samar Suleiman, Director (Switzerland) samar@thecwsa.org Mike Viland, Director (United States) mike@thecwsa.org Caro Villeneuve, Director (Canada) caro@thecwsa.org This year two Directors decided to not seek re-election after many years of service and contribution to the sport, and the CWSA. The Board of Directors wishes to acknowledge and thank Alena Pishchulina and Trevor Miller for their years of volunteer service and many hours of hard work with the CWSA for the advancement and growth of the sport. Alena joined the Board in 2014 and served four years on the Board. Alena brought to the Board her unique perspectives on the development of the sport based on her experiences as a pro level competitor, an event organizer, and an international businesswoman. On the Board, Alena has served on several committees, including World Series of Wake Surfing, and Judging and Scoring. Alena was also instrumental in presenting some of the first judge training seminars in Seoul, South Korea and in Moscow, Russia. As an event organizer, Alena has been at the leading edge of the expansion of the sport all over Europe, organizing top shelf World Series of Wake Surfing events in England, France, Spain, Switzerland, Hungary and Russia, and brought wakesurfing to the world-wide extreme sports event FISE. Alena is a past recipient of the CWSA ‘Event Organizer of the Year’ award. On the judging side, Alena has served as a head judge and pro level judge at events all over Europe, and as a pro level judge in North America, and at Worlds. Alena has been instrumental at coaching and developing wakesurf athletes from Western Europe and Russia. As a pro level competitor, Alena has competed in Pro Women Surf in several World Wake Surfing Championships. Trevor joined the Board in 2013 and served the Board for five years in many capacities. He was a past Vice President and member of several committees, including the WRS, Scoring and Judging, and Awards. He has also been active with various events as a head judge (NWWSA, Rocky Mountain, and several PWT events), and a pro division judge at many events, including the World Wake Surfing Championship. Trevor’s contributions to the CWSA’s innovations include early scoring workbook development for the 1st live scored event in wakesurf, and event format contributions. As a competitor, Trevor has competed as an Outlaw and Pro, and has frequently qualified for an invitation to Worlds. He also holds an unofficial World record from 2013 for the longest wakesurf marathon (most time on the board in 24 hours) at Sparks Reservoir. He is a currently a team rider for Blusurf and Centurion Boats. Recently, he was named the 2018 Centurion Boats ‘Athlete of the Year’. While the Board will miss their contributions and assistance, both Alena and Trevor have young children, and time is precious and limited. The Board wishes them both great times on their boats with their families, and all the best in their ongoing and future endeavors. We are confident that Trevor and Alena will continue to be involved in various aspects of the sport for years to come. Coming in January: website updates and release of the approved World Series of Wake Surfing and WRS events for 2019. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and Happy Old New Year! Stay tuned! |
